The CPS Board, NHTSA, and Safe Kids Worldwide want to encourage CPS Technicians and Instructors to stay up to date and use current technical materials in their work. Safe Ride News has been approved as one resource technicians can use toward recertification. Purchase of a Safe Ride News subscription and knowledge of the LATCH Manual can be used for up to three of the six Continuing Education Units (CEUs) needed for recertification in a two-year period. 

Individual CPSTs and Instructors will be responsible for keeping their own records in case they get audited.  

This is how the CEU process will work for materials from Safe Ride News Publications:

Safe Ride News subscription

One CEU will be allowed for each year of subscription to the newsletter. SRN will provide an original Proof of Purchase (POP) letter for each paid subscription starting in September 2006 or later at no additional cost.  Note on your order that you want a POP. It is important to keep the POP letter, as it will be needed for audits.  

Can CPSTs in small offices share a subscription and get credit?
To accommodate small offices, SRN will allow up to three people to share one $87 annual subscription. (The introductory rate is not available for this offer.)  For a single subscription, we will provide POP letters to three people using the same address. These are the only three people who can claim CEUs for this small group subscription during the period of the subscription.  

Can members of larger groups get credit?
For discounted group subscriptions of more than three, such as for states, SRN will provide a POP to each person in the group. Group leaders, please contact Nancy.   

What happens if I lose my POP letter? 
A replacement can be obtained upon request for a small service fee.  

LATCH Manual

One CEU per 2-year certification period can be claimed for the 2009 edition. Those who choose to count this credit must take a 10-question open-book quiz to show they know key concepts and how to use the LATCH manual. The quiz is available below or can be faxed or e-mailed if necessary. The quiz should be printed out, completed, and kept as documentation of this CEU.  It will be corrected if you are audited.

How will the quiz be graded? 
At this time, the quiz is only graded if you are audited.

What if I have an older version of the manual?  
Pre-2009 editions will not count, because one main point of the CEU system is use of current resources.
